Bolster Pillows appear to date back to
Egyptian times, when vast amounts of money and fine detail was lavished on
the richly embroidered pillow. These Bolsters bedecked both the head
and the foot of the finest beds and sofas and were used throughout to
maintain an upright sleeping position.
Many of the Bolsters were filled with rich
perfumes and herbal remedies thought to cure ills.
Towards the end of the 1800s our sleeping
position changed, and we began to sleep lying down. The shape of the
Bolster Pillow changed too, and thus became more like the rectangular shape
that we commonly recognise today.
There is no doubt that nowadays we are buying
bigger beds which are more in proportion to our
needs. Normal standard sized bed pillows are of insufficient size to cover the width of
our mattress, and more often than not our head simply falls between the two
pillows, making sleep awkward
and uncomfortable.
An English Bolster Pillow will fully cover the entire width of your bed, giving full
and continuous support, and ensuring a good night’s sleep. Utilise your entire
bed space with a full width English Bolster Pillow.
Please note that if you have never used a
Bolster Pillow before, it may take several weeks for you to fully adapt to
sleeping on your new pillow. Bolsters are traditionally much more
firmer and certainly weigh a far lot more than normal pillows.
Bride & Groom
An English Bolster Pillow is the perfect gift
for newlyweds.
For Kids
Children just love the Cylindrical 'Sausage'
Bolsters. They can use them to sit up in bed or play with them on the
floor. They can also be placed vertically
each side on the edge of the bed to prevent small children from rolling out.
